Overview

Prompt

Learnovation's ultimate goal is to provide free courses and certificates to lower income individuals, enabling them to enter high demand careers without financial barriers. Our hackathon required us to create a website and web app for the new organization. Our team included researchers, data analysts, project managers, designers, and developers.

My Role

As hybrid innovator, I took on multiple roles through the project, including UX Researcher, UX Designer, and Graphic Designer. Most of my work went toward the website.

Initial Research

Background Research

Research Goals

• Learn more about the typical potential Learnovation Academy user

• Understand their obstacles in regards to educational advancement

• Learn about any past experience with online educational platforms

• Determine what prospective students are looking for in a platform

Research 1 - Survey

As a hybrid innovator, I assisted the UX Researchers in coming up with survey questions to initially gather information about our users. After gathering about 17 responses, our data analysts provided us with statistics. I then helped the UX Researchers in creating a persona:

Defining & Ideation

Brainstorming

Me along with the other researchers as well as some hybrid innovators, brainstormed solutions to the biggest issues facing potential Learnovation users, based on the data from our surveys.

Prototyping

Wireframes

My assignment was to design the landing and contact page for the website. This would introduce potential users to Learnovation Academy, and would hopefully encourage them to embark on their learning journey.

High-fidelity Design

Graphic Design + Final Prototypes

While the high-fidelity design was mostly accomplished by other designers, I assisted in creating graphic design assets, such as the logo and collages featuring people.

Reflection

Final Thoughts + Next Steps

Working with a cross-disciplinary team was a new experience for me. I thoroughly enjoyed assisting in conducting user research, and I also learned more about information architecture through one of my team members. If given more time, I would:

• Improve the delight factor in the website’s user experience

• Create high-fidelity log in and sign up pages
